WHO ARE THEY? Do you know one?
Adult Slower Learners are people over the age of 17 who have a functional IQ of 70-90 (approximately 15% of the population). They have developmental difficulties that, although mild, do prevent them from becoming fully engaged in all aspects of "normal life." Chief among these unfulfilled needs are the development of social interaction with peers, avenues of acquiring new friends, resources for establishing social and recreational patterns in the local community, and the characteristics of mature social behavior.
WHAT DO THEY NEED?
They need more age appropriate social activities: lifestyle opportunities that are not available to them without help; in other words an effective, healthy, and personalized social life.
